WASHINGTON –Today, U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) sent a letter demanding answers from Steward Health Care System, Medical Properties Trust, and Insight Health Systems after the sudden closure of two hospitals in Trumbull County left over 200,000 Ohioans without access to care. Senator Moreno called on executives to explain how they plan to reopen the hospitals and assist laid-off employees, among other questions.

“Steward Health Care’s nationwide predatory practices and financial missteps have been ongoing for many years. I could not begin to adequately chronical all the nationwide damage Steward Health Care has caused, all at the expense of patients, while its executives are ‘sailing on their yachts,’” Senator Moreno said. “It is absolutely imperative that the people of Trumbull County have access to quality health care. You should be ashamed and held responsible.

Steward Health has long been plagued by accusations of corporate greed and financial mismanagement, even resulting in a unanimous vote to hold the company’s former CEO in contempt.
